Apart from some ongoing evaluations, my current research interests and practice are mainly
in research on evaluation and the sociology of evaluation, that is to say, the social aspects of
evaluation, such as evaluation policy and power relationships concerning evaluation.
At present I’m working on several research projects:
The connections between epistemological perceptions and evaluation perceptions and practices (together with Sigal Chen). The first stage of this research examined whether different epismological perceptions can be identified. We have found that this is indeed the case. Now we are looking for the connections between these perceptions and the ways people think about and conduct evaluation.
Evaluation policy and its bases, particularly in the educational field in Israel. I welcome any suggestions for comparative research with other countries.
The evaluation field in Israel, its main capitals and power relationships is being examined from several aspects (together with Esther Halevi). In the first stage, we observed the history and the emergence of the field in Israel, which was relatively late, during the 1970s, and found a very low level of institutionalization. The second stage of this research is to unravel the current evaluation field and is now under way.
Together with Dorit Tubin, I am looking at evaluation’s journey toward becoming a profession. We are especially interested in the characteristics of evaluation that influence this journey (such as fluid body of knowledge, diverse ideologies, epistemological and ontological approaches, its strong connections with politics, and the lack of mutual background among evaluators).
The conditions for knowledge creation in evaluation, especially through the lenses of abductive research logic (the logic of discovery), systems, and cybernetics.
